Salary Review: TOP 10 Best Oil & Gas Companies

Considering the current market conditions and the shift in the global energy stack - Interning in the oil patch might seem like all but a distant memory. But make no mistake, energy; specifically, Oil and Gas, remain one of the largest and most lucrative industries in the country. Aside from paying well, Oil & Gas companies offer amazing opportunities to flex and build technical skills while allowing for a chance to solve some of today's most complex environmental challenges. Couple that with an aging workforce (most employees are over 44) and an industry in desperate need of digital skills, its easy to see why we think there are still great opportunities.


If you want a challenging career in an industry hungry for talent and innovation, do not pass up working for an Oil and Gas company. Below is a list MNI put together of the top ten best paying Oil and Gas companies in Canada, according to data compiled from hundreds of company reviews. The ranking named ConocoPhillips as the best-paying employer, followed by Shell and Imperial Oil. Figure 1

As we know, a high salary is not the only indicator of a good internship. To account for the intangibles, the folks at MNI normalized wages by the company ratings and re-ran the numbers. Ordering based on normalized wages essentially unchanged, as companies that paid higher salaries tend to have higher average ratings. Figure 2
